Boston -- The Environmental Health and Safety
Department of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the most
prestigious cancer research facilities in the world, was presented
the Above and Beyond Award on July 16th. Richard Stokes an employee
at the institute who also serves as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army
Reserve nominated his supervisor, Melissa McCullough for a Patriot
Award. After reviewing Mr. Stokes' submission, MAESGR Program
Support Specialist
David St. Germain
, recommended the department for a higher level of recognition in
the form of an "Above and Beyond" Award.
After Ms. McCullough received the award from MA ESGR Awards Director
Roger Fortin, she commented on how valuable an asset Mr. Stokes is
to her department because of his military experience. As a result of
Sgt. Stokes' Army Reserve training and management skills, he has
been promoted to a leadership position. Mr. St. Germain commented,
"It is nice to know that in today's world of peril and constant
deployments, employers like Melissa exemplify the values of
patriotism that have made this country great, filling its citizens
with an enduring sense of pride." "Those factors by
employers foster selfless service by Guardsmen and Reservists like
Sergeant Stokes."
