  MASSACHUSETTS UTILITIES CORPORATION RECEIVES TWO MORE PATRIOT AWARDS

 

 

. December 02, 2009. Mr. John Quinn, a supervisor at the NSTAR Massachusetts Avenue facility in Boston and Corporate CEO, Mr. Tom May were each honored with an ESGR Patriot Award in a ceremony here today. Both gentlemen were nominated because of their outstanding support of Staff Sergeant (SSG) James Hamm who is an employee and member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Senior Vice President Joseph R. Nolan, Jr. accepted the award for Mr. May and stated that he is very proud of the NSTAR folks who are serving their country in the Guard and Reserve. He went on to say that company CEO Mr. May promotes a corporate atmosphere that is very favorable and supportive of the men and women serving in the Guard and Reserve. Mr. Quinn, the direct supervisor of SSG Hamm, proudly stated that James Hamm was an outstanding employee and that his military training and ethics are a valuable asset to the efficiency of his department and to NSTAR. Mr. Quinn proudly stated that he is very fortunate to have someone of Jim Hamm's high caliber working with him. Also on hand for NSTAR was Ms. Margaret S. Norton, Director of Corporate Communications.   

NSTAR is the largest Massachusetts-based, investor-owned electric and gas utility, with revenues of approximately $3.3 billion and assets totaling approximately $8.3 billion. NSTAR transmits and delivers electricity and gas to 1.1 million electric customers in 81 communities and nearly 300,000 gas customers in 51 communities. NSTAR employs more than 3,200 employees in its regulated business.   

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Committee has more than 35 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were South Eastern Area Chair and Senior Ombudsman Joachim-Ingo "Ski" Borowski and Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
