FORMER DOD FREEDOM AWARD RECIPIENT RENEWS THEIR PLEDGE TO THE TROOPS AND ESGR

Bill Napert, Jr. Public Affairs Director, MAESGR

BRAINTREE, MA. November 18, 2009. Brothers Nick, Ron and Pete Cardi better known throughout Southern New England as Ni-Ro-Pi signed the Statement of Support for the Guard & Reserve today renewing their commitment to our nation's citizen soldiers. Cardi Furniture, retail giant in Southeastern New England, and the Cardi Brothers are pioneer members of ESGR since 1972. Nick, Ron and Pete are well known for their willingness to help others and their generous spirit. Cardi Furniture has an in-house production staff and they produce all their own television, radio and newspaper advertisements. Since they usually star in their advertising, when they are in their suits, or a jacket and tie, they always wear their ESGR lapel pins. They have received every DOD and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve award including The Presidential Freedom Award.

Currently, Cardi Furniture  has three members of the Guard & Reserve among the workforce. They stated that: "ESGR gives us an opportunity as a company to show our support for those who risk their lives for and defending our freedom." Over the last decade, Cardi's Furniture has employed many members of the Guard & Reserve who have gone on multiple deployments. When they ship out, Cardi's sends their family the difference in pay and continues all of their benefits including their 401K contributions. In addition to the work benefits, The Cardi Brothers provide an all expense paid get away weekend prior to deployment. Cardi's  even gave one soldier, a weeks vacation in Hawaii upon return from his third deployment. In addition to the Ni-Ro-Pi Brothers, Ben DeCastro, marketing manager at Cardi's, and numerous staff members were on hand for the signing. Braintree Veterans Agent, Richard Walsh also participated.

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Committee has more than 35 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were South Eastern Area Chair and Senior Ombudsman Joachim-Ingo "Ski" Borowski, Awards Director Roger Fortin and Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
