By Bill Napert, Jr. Public Affairs Director, MAESGR

WALTHAM, MA. February 24, 2010. The NOREL Service Company, Inc. was established in 1971 by Mr. Thomas F. Norton. NOREL has 30 employees who are specialists in the installation, service and testing of fire detection, fire sprinkler and fire pump systems. Mr. Edward Morse is the General Manager of the organization. Mr. Morse is also a Petty Officer First Class (E-6) who drills with The Seabees in Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Twenty Seven (NMCB-27). In his recommendation of his boss, Petty Officer Morse wrote; "Our CEO, Mr. Norton not only talks the talk but he also walks the walk! My recent deployment created many hardships for my employer as I am the General Manager of the company. Mr. Norton continued my compensation and monitored my dependents' college tuition, helping when necessary. He continuously checked up with my home-front paying attention to the small details. Finally, he petitioned the State to waive my continuing education requirements for professional license renewal, saving me a great deal of problems when I returned. "

With more than 15 employees in attendance, Mr. David Peterson the company Service Manager accepted The Patriot Award on behalf of CEO Thomas Norton. As a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of the USS Constitution Museum, Mr. Norton was in Washington D. C. on behalf of the museum foundation. Mr. Norton has first hand knowledge of Guard and Reserve issues because he is a retired Navy Reserve "Mustang" Lieutenant Commander who was also mobilized and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. The NOREL Service Company had previously signed a Statement of Support.

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Committee has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were Volunteer Roger Fortin and Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
