NORWOOD, MA. May 24, 2010. Covidien is more than a leading provider of medical devices, supplies and pharmaceuticals. They are also a company who cares about their Guard Members and Reservists. Covidien, formerly Tyco Health, of Dublin, Ireland, with its main U. S. Headquarters in Mansfield, MA. Major Eric D. Hughes, US Army Reserve is an employee at Covidien and nominated Mr. William Floyd, a Vice President of the corporation for The Patriot Award. This was the fourth Patriot Award given to various management personnel of Covidien. Mr. Floyd was unable to accept the award, so the award was accepted by Donna Smith of Human Resources. Major Hughes stated that "As a new hire with fewer than 7 months on the job, Bill recognized my service to our country at the National Training Meeting, my first meeting with the company. It was a touching gesture that was unexpected and really made me feel like a member of the Covidien family". Covidien recently was awarded the Above & Beyond Award as well. 

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Committee has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were Volunteer Roger Fortin and Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
