MASSACHUSETTS MILITARY RESERVATION, OTIS AIR NATIONAL GUARD HOST EIGHTH ANNUAL EMPLOYER APPRECIATION DAY

BOURNE, MA. June 11, 2010. More than 42 employers and Massachusetts Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve Field Office members came together today for the eighth annual Employer Appreciation Day. The group gathered at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jim Cummings led the attendees in The Pledge of Allegiance. The salute was followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Second Lieutenant (2LT) Keturah Spence of the 6th Space Warning Squadron (USAF).

The employers were led through various venues that included a tour of Cape Cod Air Station (PAVE PAWS). They were then given an operation brief by Captain (CAPT) David Troop, US Coast Guard (USCG) Commander at USCG Station, Cape Cod. This was followed with a display of static USCG aircraft and a patrol boat. A fine buffet luncheon was followed by a brief by the leadership of the 102nd Intelligence Wing (ANG) and the 253rd Combat Communications Group (ANG). An extremely interesting history of the MA ANG and MA Military Academy was given by Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Chuck Perenick. Overall, the day was a tremendous success and enjoyed by all the participants.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Field Office has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were Field Chair Tom Boyle, South Eastern MA Area Chair and Senior Ombudsman Joachim-Ingo "Ski" Borowski, and Volunteers Bob Pomeroy, Roger Fortin, Rob Moberg and Arthur Parker. The day's events were coordinated by Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
