BRIDGEWATER, MA. July 2, 2010. Agencies that deal with law enforcement and criminal justice are usually high stress and high tempo. Bare bones budgets and tight staffs have a tendency to increase those levels. This is especially true at this Bridgewater, Massachusetts Facility. There are many Guard and Reserve Members employed at Old Colony and their supervisors and Brother Correctional Officers watch over each other. Technical Sergeant (TSgt) Mark S. Sheridan, MA Air National Guard, nominated his supervisor, Captain Al Saucier for the Patriot Award. In his narrative, the TSgt wrote: "My entire department at Old Colony has been very supportive of my military career which includes multiple deployments totaling more than 4 years. I am currently slated to deploy again! Captain Saucier has met this upcoming deployment with the same outstanding support and concern. The department has never allowed me to suffer financially, by making up the difference in my salary. They also look after my family throughout the entire deployment." This is the fourth Patriot Award that various supervisors at this facility have received.  

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Field Office has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were Volunteer Roger Fortin and Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
