STOUGHTON, MA. August 5, 2010. Stoughton Police Officer Christopher Davis is also a Staff Sergeant (SSgt) in the Air National Guard (ANG). He truly is proud to wear both uniforms. One in  defense of his country and the other to protect and serve the good people of Stoughton, MA. In his nomination of the police department for the Patriot Award, he wrote; "My employer goes above and beyond what is required of them to accommodate my leave while on military orders. While I am on active duty, my employer continues to match the difference of my military base salary and allows me to accrue vacation, sick leave and compensation time!" Accepting the award on behalf of the department, Chief of Police Paul Shastany said; "I am very pleased to be accepting this award on behalf of the Stoughton Police Department. I am extremely proud to have an individual of SSgt Davis' caliber on our roster." 

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Field Office has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were Volunteers South Eastern Area Chair and Senior Ombudsman Joachim-Ingo "Ski" Borowski, Roger Fortin and Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
