      READING POLICE CHIEF HONORED WITH THE PATRIOT AWARD

                              

  

 

                     

    READING, MA. June 30, 2010. Chief James W. Cormier of the Reading Police Department received the Patriot Award for his support of members of the Guard and Reserve. Also present were for this event were Reading Town Manager Peter I. Hechenbleikner and Chief Cormier's daughter Lauren and son Steven. Dr. Tom Mulvaney, MA ESGR Employer Outreach Director made the presentation. Chief Cormier was nominated to receive the award by Reading Police Officer Christine Amendola. Officer Amendola is a Police Officer for the Town of Reading and also a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.  

"I am honored and flattered to have been chosen for this award"; said Chief Cormier upon receiving his award. "The Town of Reading Police Department takes great pride in having two of our officers serving our country and we wish them good luck and a safe and speedy return to us."  

Dr. Mulvaney when making the presentation said; "Its employers like the Reading Police and Chief Cormier who make it possible for these soldiers to serve their country. Through programs like this we are able to give them the recognition they deserve."

Reading is located 12 miles from the state capital of Boston. It was incorporated on June 1o, 1644 taking its name from Reading, England.      

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Field Office has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR was Employer Outreach Director Tom Mulvaney, MD.
