MIDDLEBORO, MA. August 21, 2010. The Patriot Award (Patriotic Employer) is given to supportive employers of guard and reserve employees. All employers must conform to the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) of 1994. However, some bosses do a little more for their citizen soldiers, sailors, airmen, coast guard and marines. Ms. Helena Moylan is one such person. Having previously signed a Statement of Support, one of her Army National Guard Employees, Danielle Dutra, nominated Ms. Moylan for the honor. In her narrative Private Dutra stated: "Mrs. Moylan not only treats her staff with the utmost respect but is totally supportive of my military career. Helena has made a point to keep in touch with me and sharing my mailing address with other staff members while I am away. During UTA weekends, she covers both of my shifts and provides coverage for the Monday after as well!" While 4 staff members looked on, MAESGR Field Representative David St. Germain presented Ms. Moylan with the award.  

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Field Office has more than 40 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR was Program Support Specialist David St. Germain.
