SOMERVILLE POLICE UNION HONORED WITH THE PATRIOTIC EMPLOYER AWARD AND SIGNS A STATEMENT OF SUPPORT

SOMERVILLE, MA. December 19, 2011. Staff Sergeant Randy Isaacs is a member of the Army National Guard as well as a police officer in the Somerville MA Police Department. After a recent deployment, Officer Isaacs was so pleased with the support and help his union members gave to him and his family that he nominated the union for the Patriot Award. In his nomination, the Staff Sergeant wrote about the tremendous support to him and his deployed troops by sending numerous "Care Packages". He also was overwhelmed by the membership's concern for his family left behind. Officer Isaacs was also pleasantly surprised when he returned to his former position on the police force as if he never left.

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the USERRA law of 1994 and resolving conflicts through mediation. The MA Field Office has more than 45 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Soldier". On hand representing MAESGR were Volunteers Teresa Walsh and Employer Outreach Director Tom Mulvaney, MD.
